Persistence of lightning launcher!

Post by Cueball666uk » Fri Jun 21, 2019 5:40 am

Sorry to bring this back up again :o ... But my lightning launcher is getting killed more often than ever, I have enabled the setting to keep lightning alive and also made sure lightning is "not optimised" in battery settings but these settings have literally no effect ... And lightning has also started asking if I want it to be default more frequently ... Is anyone still looking at a way to lock lightning in the memory as this is becoming a huge issue?. Thanks in advance for any help

I hope the new release will fix this issue. Please let me know how it works for you once you get the update.

For me it's the other way round!

I was not having this issue earlier, but after the new update, this issue started. I'm on Pie, updated recently.

Hope to get this resolved soon...

Sorry Pierre, But the issue seems to have started all over again ... I guess it must have been a placebo effect, or me just hoping it was fixed ! Sorry for the bad news...

I've no other idea. It's not supposed to be worse in any case, as nothing is removed but a new mechanism is added above the others :-(
Is the persistent notification present ?

Wasn't the changes for the persistence of the floating desktop? I can be wrong, but I think the persistence of the floating desktop is independent from the persistence of lightning itself (and the notification is only present when it is enabled).
Still no other changes should affect the killing.

If you want to try, simplify your desktop by removing panels, items and widgets (specially complex ones). This is the opposite of what Lightning represents but...a simpler app means less memory used and less likely to being killed. You can try.

Ah I see I didn't realise that the persistence of the launcher as a whole was a separate issue to the persistence of the floating desktop (which I don't use) ... My issue is the launcher having to reload randomly and also telling me to re-set as default launcher !

It's such a shame I can't seem to get Lightning to stop reloading ... It's driving me round the bend ! Having to use a different launcher atm till I can find a way to keep Lightning alive constantly, it's like 2 out of every 10 unlocks results in OnePlus launcher taking over and I have to reload lightning this was also the case on my Pixel 2 XL and pixel launcher !.... This is not the case with any other launcher, as far as I can see they manage to stay alive ... I'm going to have a read around and see if it's possible if I'm rooted ...!

if your phones rooted why not just disable the stock launcher or better yet convert lightning to a system app, if this is still possible to do these days.

I'm not rooted atm but I may have to see if it's worth me rooting, as I use Android pay a hell of a lot !

Also if I disable the default OnePlus launcher the navigation gestures are also disabled as they are part of the launcher too ...!

@Cueball666uk could you try to activate the floating desktop (even an empty one) just to see how it behaves?

@TrianguloY is right, the main change to keep the app alive in foreground is only active when the floating desktop is enabled. If it solves the issue, I may enable it independently.

I'm back with lightning and testing with a floating desktop with just a few apps on... I will keep you informed thanks so much Pierre!

Whatever happens when you enable the floating desktop has seemingly solved my issue ... I have had only 1 refresh since I enabled this setting yesterday and that would most likely be due to OnePlus "sleep optimisation" ... So basically this one setting alone has made lightning infinitely more stable than before ... Thanks Pierre ! I will leave floating desktop enabled for now even though I don't use it ...! Thanks again

Long term update .... This issue has started to reoccur more and more often again ... It's literally as if lightning is being force closed and re-opened randomly, but I have checked my ram and have approx 3gb free most of the time ... I have checked all settings to make sure nothing is closing lightning and everything is looking good ... I really don't know what to do about this, I have no idea how to make lightning stay active !
